News Update - April 2026: Part 2
Construction Starts on 500 MW Maun Solar Plant in Botswana. Mulilo Reaches Financial Close on Beaufort West Solar Plant.

Welcome to the second edition of April 2026. This edition covers 18 updates across 11 countries. One project reached financial close, four plants reached commissioning or operational status, two financing agreements were announced and eleven projects advanced in development, construction, or approvals. Zambia accounts for five entries this edition, reflecting intensified investment activity across the country's solar energy sector.

South Africa - Mulilo Reaches Financial Close on Beaufort West Solar Plant
Mulilo has reached financial close on the 250 MW Beaufort West Solar Plant in the Western Cape, the company's fourth financial close in 2026, backed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Norfund, with debt from Absa, Standard Bank, Investec and Nedbank, under a multi-year C&I power purchase agreement with NOA.

Eritrea - China Energy Engineering Corporation Connects 30 MW Dekemhare Solar Plant to Grid
China Energy Engineering Corporation has connected the 30 MW Dekemhare Solar Plant to the national grid at full capacity in Dekemhare. It is Eritrea's largest solar installation and the country's first centralized plant integrated with a 15 MW / 30 MWh battery energy storage system.

Nigeria - Daystar Power Commissions 2.63 MW Solar Plant with BESS for GZI at Agbara Industrial Estate
Daystar Power has commissioned a 2.63 MW solar plant integrated with over 1.5 MWh of battery storage for GZI at Agbara Industrial Estate in Ogun State, under an energy-as-a-service model, bringing Daystar's total installed capacity within the cluster to 14.7 MW across eight industrial clients.

President Hakainde Hichilema has commissioned the 50 MW Mansa Solar Plant in Mansa District, built by China Machinery Engineering Corporation at a cost of approximately USD 48 million, with ZESCO as grid off-taker.
